How My Bachelor Life and Gurgaon Tech Hustle Turned Me Into a Home Cook

During my bachelor days, food was both a challenge and a comfort. Like most young professionals, I often ended up eating out. From 2006 to 2013, Gurgaon was booming as India’s rising tech and startup hub, and exploring new eateries was our weekend sport. Every time a colleague discovered a new outlet, it became our go-to spot—at least until we had tasted every corner of the city. But the excitement soon wore off when I started facing health issues. That was the wake-up call—I needed to cook my own meals.

In those early days, cooking seemed daunting. Like many bachelor: Maggi became my go-to food whenever I tried cooking by myself—it was quick, easy, and foolproof. Like many, I initially relied only on my mother’s phone guidance for recipes. But times were changing fast. YouTube started to fill the learning gap. Being tech-savvy, I turned to it early and discovered Nisha Madhulika’s channel, which soon became my personal cooking mentor. Her simple, fast, and tasty recipes helped me master curries, rice dishes, and even chapatis. Slowly, the kitchen transformed from a survival space into a creative zone.

Captured Moments: Highlights from the Memoir

A heartfelt thank you to Nisha Madhulika, whose tireless efforts and passion for home-style Indian cooking made learning from scratch feel approachable and enjoyable. Her warm presence and clear step-by-step tutorials were more than just recipes—they were a guide to a healthier, more mindful life. I’ve learned so many dishes from her videos that I now confidently cook both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals. Her contribution to home cooks like me is invaluable, and I remain grateful for every video she created with care and clarity.

From the nonstop hustle of Gurgaon’s corporate life, I found unexpected peace in cooking. What began as a health decision turned into a passion. I now cook a variety of veg and non-veg dishes, slice-dice vegetable like chef and rarely eat outside—except for the occasional samosa. Cooking is no longer a task; it’s a form of relaxation, a way to unwind and build something with my hands. For me, life has always been about building and exploring—whether it’s code, ideas, biking, road trip or now, food.
